Shipments to Argentina Require Pre-Departure Approval

When the US launched its pre-departure screening efforts in the wake of September 11th, to call it predicable that the rest of the world would eventually do the same would be a tremendous understatement.

We’ve seen efforts now in Brazil, Australia and the EU, just to name a few diverse regions.  Add to that list…Argentina.

Effective February 1, the Argentine government requires this information (available online at http://www.afip.gob.ar/djai).  Make sure you wash it through the Google Translator, it’s Spanish or bust on their site.

If the shipment doesn’t have the authorization of the DJAI prior to arrival in Argentina, the government has the right to allow or reject the shipment.  If rejected, the shipper and consignee (both) are responsible for any and all extra expenses incurred.

Here’s a good backgrounder on the issue.  Thankfully, auf Englischhttp://www.argentinaindependent.com/tag/djai/
